WH Ireland Group plc (LON: WHI) has today announced the appointment of Philip Shelley as a Non-Executive Director of the Company, subject only to FCA approval. It is intended that he will also serve on the Audit, Risk and Remuneration Committees.

Philip was previously Vice Chairman at Barclays Investment Bank. Subsequently he created, and runs, Arlington Capital Markets Limited. Before Barclays Philip ran the Goldman Sachs Corporate Broking and ECM team in the UK for five years, and before that was Head of Corporate Broking at UBS, where he worked for fifteen years.

During his career of 24 years, Philip has advised and raised equity for a wide range of UK public and private companies.

Tim Steel, WH Ireland Group plc Non-Executive Chairman, commented:

“The Board would like to welcome Phil to the Group and I look forward to working with him. He has spent his entire career in the City and has first-hand experience of developing broking businesses and helping companies grow. We believe that he will be able to bring his extensive experience, gained over 24 years, in support of the new executive management team as we move forward to build value for clients, employees and shareholders.”

Philip Shelley commented:

“While the new management team has made good progress there remains much to do and I look forward to helping the WH Ireland business achieve its true potential. I believe that the WH Ireland brand remains a strong positive as does the Company’s performance for its wealth customers. Its significant broking and private funding business provide a good platform for growth. I believe that WH Ireland’s high quality service and fund raising capabilities for its clients have never been more important”

A further announcement will be made when a FCA decision is given.
