The National Education Union (NEU) has voted overwhelmingly in favour of strike action for February and March of 2023. Over nine out of ten teacher members of the NEU voted for strike action, which passed the 50% ballot turnout required by law. The union has declared seven days of walkouts in February and March, but they have stated that any individual school will only be affected by four of the days.
The first strike was planned for February 14th, but it has since been postponed after the union received an updated pay offer to consider. The next planned strikes will take place on February 28th for North and North-West England, Yorkshire and Humber; March 1st for East Midlands, West Midlands, and the NEU’s eastern region; March 2nd for all schools in Wales (postponed from February 14th), as well as South-East and South-West England, and London; and March 15th and 16th for all schools in England and Wales.
In addition to the planned strikes in England and Wales, NEU teachers in sixth-form colleges in England will also walk out. The Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS) have already staged 16 days of strike action throughout late January and early February, so no further strikes are confirmed for Scotland.
