Smurfit Kappa Group plc Appoint independent Director with significant international experience

Smurfit Kappa Group plc (LON:SKG), one of the world’s largest manufacturers of paper-based packaging products, with operations in Europe and the Americas, announces the appointment of Anne Anderson to the Board as an independent, non-executive Director with effect from 1 January 2019.

Anne is an experienced international diplomat who most recently served as the Ambassador of Ireland to the United States. Anne joined the Department of Foreign Affairs in 1972 and was appointed Assistant Secretary General in 1991 serving in this post until 1995. From 1995 to 2001, Anne was Ireland’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, and in 2001 she became Permanent Representative of Ireland to the European Union, which corresponded with Ireland’s EU Presidency in 2004.

Following her appointment to the European Union, Anne was appointed Ambassador of Ireland to France in 2005, where she served until 2009. In 2009 she became Permanent Representative of Ireland to the United Nations in New York and in 2013 she was appointed Ambassador of Ireland to the United States of America, a role she held until 2017. Anne is a member of the Advisory Board for the Peacebuilding Fund at the United Nations. She is also a Board member of the Druid Theatre Galway.
