Manchester United’s investigation into the alleged misconduct of 21-year old Mason Greenwood is ongoing and it is highly unlikely that he will be taking part in any first-team training for the foreseeable future. Greenwood was arrested in January 2022 and charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. However, these charges were later dropped and an internal investigation into the matter was launched instead.

Members of United’s women’s team have expressed concern over the possibility of Greenwood returning to training, with female members of staff and some members of the men’s squad sharing similar views. Additionally, the club’s commercial partners have also raised concerns. As a result, Nike have already cut ties with the player, despite Greenwood briefly adding them back to his Instagram bio.

The internal investigation is expected to take several months, meaning that Greenwood is likely to miss the rest of the season. He has two years left on his current contract at Old Trafford with the option to extend that by a further year, however should United decide to cut ties with the player, he has been linked with a potential move abroad.

Greenwood has made 129 appearances since joining Man United in 2018, scoring 35 goals. He made his one and only England appearance in September 2020.
