Manchester City have returned to the top of the Premier League table after a thrilling 3-1 win against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. Kevin de Bruyne opened the scoring with a superb lobbed effort before Bukayo Saka levelled the contest from the penalty spot three minutes before half-time. In a frenetic second-half, Jack Grealish put City ahead with a well-worked move before Erling Haaland sealed the win with his 32nd goal of the season.

The victory means City are now level on points with Arsenal but clear at the top on goal difference, although Arsenal do have a game in hand. De Bruyne’s opener came after 24 minutes as Takehiro Tomiyasu attempted to hook a lofted through ball back to his goalkeeper, which the Belgian pounced on and curled a precise finish over on the onrushing Aaron Ramsdale.

Saka levelled the game from the penalty spot after Eddie Nketiah was brought down in the box by Ederson, who had already been booked for time wasting minutes earlier. City were then awarded a penalty on 56 minutes after Gabriel hauled down Haaland inside the box – only for VAR to offer them a reprieve with the Premier League top scorer ruled to have been offside.

Grealish put City ahead just after the hour mark, sweeping home via a deflection that beat Ramsdale. A scramble on the line denied Manuel Akanji before de Bruyne picked out Haaland in the six yard area to drill into the far corner and secure the win. City now sit at the top of the Premier League table and will be hoping to stay there as they look to retain their title.
