London Zoo recently celebrated Valentine’s Day in a unique way – by giving the Western Lowland gorillas a special treat! Two female gorillas, Mjukuu and Effie, have recently been introduced to Kiburi, a male gorilla who arrived in November 2022 as part of the European breeding programme for critically endangered species. To commemorate the day of love, zookeepers provided the trio with a heart-shaped piñata filled with nutritious greens, such as sweet potato, cucumbers, and sweetcorn.

The trio were seen to be getting along well, with signs such as grooming each other and Mjukuu gazing lovingly at Kiburi. Zookeepers are hopeful that their bond will continue to grow, eventually resulting in the birth of some baby gorillas. Jo Barnes, a gorilla keeper at the zoo, expressed her excitement for the potential babies.

London Zoo shared photos of the adorable gorillas celebrating their first Valentine’s Day together on Instagram. Animal lovers were delighted to see the trio enjoying the holiday of love, and it certainly put a smile on everyone’s face!
