Since Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure from Manchester United in November 2020, two of the club’s players have been seen to benefit from his absence. Former Liverpool player John Barnes has highlighted Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford as two players who have taken advantage of this situation.
Rashford, who has scored 24 goals in all competitions over the past season, has seen an improvement in his performance as a result of Ronaldo’s departure. Barnes believes that the England international was overshadowed by the Portugal legend and is now taking the opportunity to shine.
Sancho, who joined United for a fee of £75 million, has also seen a recent resurgence. Barnes suggests that the young player’s confidence suffered while Ronaldo was at the club and that United have now handled him with care.
