The FTSE AIM 100 is an index of the top 100 companies by market capitalisation listed on the Alternative Investment Market (AIM) of the London Stock Exchange. AIM was set up to help smaller and growing companies access investment, making the FTSE AIM 100 a measure of performance for some of the more rapidly developing firms in the UK market.

Key Points

  1. Composition: Includes businesses across various industries, such as technology, healthcare, energy, and retail.
  2. Market Capitalisation: Ranks companies by size, although the overall market cap of constituents is generally lower than those found in the FTSE 350.
  3. Growth Potential: AIM-listed companies are often earlier in their growth journey, meaning they can carry higher risk but may offer stronger returns if they succeed.
  4. Liquidity: Trading volumes can be more limited than on larger indices, which can result in higher price movements in response to market events or news.
