Dame Joanna Lumley and her husband Stephen Barlow have been married for almost 40 years and their love is still strong. The Absolutely Fabulous star recently revealed she still writes love notes to her 68-year-old conductor husband, showing that she is nothing like her character Patsy Stone.
Speaking to Yours magazine, Joanna said: ‘Stephen and I are forever writing notes. When I’m on the other side of the world, in faraway lands, we write to each other. People say, “Who writes letters anymore?” and I say, “I do!” I think that’s been really important for our marriage.”
Joanna believes that respect and friendship are the key components to a successful marriage, and that couples should never get married if they don’t have respect for one another. She also advises that partners should be each other’s best friends, as it is vital for a long-lasting relationship.
The 76-year-old has had a long and successful career, with her most famous role being Patsy Stone in Absolutely Fabulous. However, she is nothing like her character and was starstruck when she was cast alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in The Wolf Of Wall Street. She described him as a ‘most modest, kind-hearted, good natured, humble, adorable man’.
The much-loved presenter is keen to land a role in the hit series The White Lotus, recently praising Jennifer Coolidge’s ‘miraculous casting’. She said: ‘Oh, to be in it! Please, just quietly put my name under the door for that one.’
It is clear that Joanna and Stephen are still very much in love after all these years, and we hope that their relationship continues to blossom.
